Catalog: M2M_CATALOG
Event Time: 2023-12-03T16:08Z ( DSCOVR: PLASMAG )
All Detecting Spacecrafts:
DSCOVR: PLASMAG
ACE: SWEPAM
ACE: MAG
Activity ID: 2023-12-03T16:08:00-HSS-001 (version 3)
Event End Time:
Peak Solar Wind Speed (km/s): 665.0
Date of first appearance of coronal hole in EUV at east limb: 2023-11-26
Note: Increase in density starting at 2023-12-03T12:10Z prior to HSS onset. The increase in solar wind speed starts at 2023-12-03T16:08Z, from 420 km/s to approx. 450 km/s, eventually increasing to around 525 km/s by 2023-12-03T21:20Z. This increase in solar wind speed is accompanied by an increase in temperature. Prior to the CH HSS start, there is an increase in B_total from 2.4 nT to 7.6 nT at 2023-12-03T16:15Z, but the greatest enhancement in magnetic field components does not start until 2023-12-03T03:10Z. Bt reaches 11.5 nT at 2023-12-04T08:44Z. The candidate CH is seen crossing the central meridian in SDO AIA 193 on 2023-12-02. The initial gradual increase in solar wind speed may be the arrival of the westernmost portion of this coronal hole high speed stream, with the additional enhancements in the solar wind occurring as the rest of the HSS arrives. This CH HSS may also have been detected in STEREO A IMPACT/PLASTIC data around 2023-12-04T08:19Z.
